I Lost My Worry Dolls. Should I Worry?
"WORRY DOLL LEGEND - There is a legend amongst the Highland Indian villages of Guatemala: "If you have a problem, then share it with a worry doll. Before going to bed, tell one worry to each doll, then place them beneath your pillow. Whilst you sleep, the dolls will take your worries away!"
I've been worried lately about many things, my daughter, my fortune cookie business, money......just like everyone seems to be worrying these days.
What to do? I saw some worry dolls at Cost Plus World Markets and shared my worries with them. It felt good. Over the weekend I lost them. Should I worry?

Dog Gone Crazy --- Organic Treats That Dogs Howl About!
On the phone today with Humane Society and SPCA of Sonoma County Angie told me a cute story. One of our Dog Fortune Cookies (Organic Treats For Your Four-Legged Friends) was on her desk next to the computer. Her little dog was sitting with her in the office.. Funny! I know what she's talking about. On my way to deliver some cookies in Jack London Square for the East Bay SPCA Adoption Fair, I walked past "Mr. Huge Happy Frisky Dog" on a leash and he suddenly jumped up and started ripping open my bag of cookies. I just let him do it certainly not wanting to deny a dog his treats but wanting to deny him fingers! The owner finally pulled him away and I made sure he had some goodies to keep him happy! His fortune: "All Good Dogs Deserve Great Fortune Cookies"
.....All the great 'Howl-o-ween' events are almost here! I sure hope to waggle over to this one in Sonoma!

Beijing Olympics and our Global Village
At the risk of editorializing, I proffer my thoughts on the upcoming Olympics.
First, regardless of politics (always inevitable in Olympic events) let's remember how fun and exciting the whole thing is. My goodness, since BC BC BC these games have endured with a resounding consistency, never varied from the every 4 year schedule. The magnitude isn't really felt until the opening ceremony. Watch!
I forget and I think, " oh, the Olympics" yet when I watch the opening ceremony, relax and let down my guard, it becomes an amazing experience. Really!
I want to see every event! I want to see every athlete!
The Olympics held in China is fantastic. For sure, controversial.....but why muddy the thing up with stuff? I was walking through Jack London Square in Oakland maybe a month ago and I met the Dalai Lama. I didn't know it was him but we had a fine conversation. I even asked him if he knew the Dalai Lama and ..."is he a nice guy?". But I'll bet he'll be watching and enjoying the Olympics without getting all angry. If he's angry, he should give me a call. And if China is angry and the world is angry and so and so is angry ...... well, let's just take a chill pill and put it on hold for a bit!

Dog Gone Organic !
I ran into Savannah today! She is such a cutie!
I first met her several weeks ago as I was test marketing our Dog Fortune Cookie so I was happy to see her again. When we first met, her owner was surprised that Savannah ate the cookie with such enthusiasm. Savannah, you see, is quite a picky eater. Today she hadn't eaten at all said her owner (a very sweet woman)l. I was so sorry I didn't have any more treats with me.
We're going to do another production run on Tuesday
. ...... Well, next time Savannah. I'll look for you on Wednesday!
It's so much fun talking to people about their dogs. It's quite enriching and warm and fuzzy. Dogs seem to really love the cookies too
I'm going to try one myself on Tuesday.
(If it's good enough for them it's good enough for me. Can't wait!!!)
The cookies are made of all natural ingredients and they're gosh darn good I'd say based on the reactions I've observed. We've done some custom orders for various groups. A rescue dog organization ordered the cookies for a fundraiser and we personalized the messages. A city in Washington advocating "keep our city clean" offered them to dog owners! Cute ideas! Very innovative!

Charles In Charge and Fortune Cookie Kim
On my way to an appointment with a formidable organic / natural foods grocery chain, I called a taxi. The cab driver and I didn't recognize each other at first but when I said that I first needed to stop at Kar Mee Fortune Cookie Factory to pick up some samples, he said , "Oh! You're fortune cookie Kim!". I then recognized him as the same cab driver I'd had a week ago. "Oh! You're Charles! I remember you!". "You're the one that doesn't like fortune cookies but we had fun talking about your fortune." He did say that the cookie was pretty good which I considered a compliment coming from someone who doesn't like fortune cookies. I must add, that everyone else who has tried the cookie has loved it. So, that's ok.
(His fortune said that he would have "...much success in sports" and we decided that he would probably be getting an exclusive transportation contract with the Oakland Raiders.)
I like Charles because I can get organized in the cab and I don't feel obligated to maintain a conversation. He's calm. He drives well and I can ask him if I should wear my hair up or down or if I look ok. I asked him if he would be my personal driver. I call him "Charles in Charge" and he calls me "Fortune Cookie Kim".
When I exited the cab, a bag of cookies fell and a car ran over it. Oh well. I had more. (That's the way the (fortune) cookie crumbles.)
Well, the store was very excited about this cookie. The buyer I spoke with had all kinds of exciting ideas on how he could use the cookie to cross-sell. His very good idea was to put one promotional item in 1 of every 5 bags; something like "Congratulations! This fortune is good for a free burrito at our deli". Each message will be personalized for their demographic. They may private label as well and they will probably carry our Dog Fortune Cookie or our Organic Dog Fortune Cookie.
All in all, it was a nice day! Charles is nice. And our Organic Fortune Cookie is quite exciting.
